One of the most famous myths connected to transformation is the story of King Midas.

King Midas was a king who loved gold more than anything else. One day, he helped a friend of Dionysus the god of wine and celebration. To reward him, Dionysus offered Midas a wish. Midas wished that everything he touched would turn into gold. Dionysus granted his wish.

At first, Midas was very happy. When he touched flowers, they turned into gold. When he touched stones, they turned into gold. He became very rich. But soon, he realized his mistake. When he tried to eat food, it turned into gold. When he touched water, it also turned into gold. He could not eat or drink.

Finally, he begged Dionysus to take back the gift. Dionysus told him to wash his hands in a river. When Midas did this, the magical power disappeared and things returned to normal.
