“Genetics”

 The word “genetics” comes from the Greek word “genesis”, which means origin, birth or creation. It also comes from another Greek word “genos”, which means race, family or offspring. So, genetics is the study of how living things are born, how they inherit qualities from their parents, and how life continues from one generation to another.

In Greek mythology, the idea of genesis (origin and birth) is very important. Many myths explain how gods, humans and all living beings were created and how their qualities passed from parents to children.

In the beginning, according to Greek mythology, there was only emptiness called Chaos. From Chaos, the first living being to appear was Gaia, the Earth goddess. She was considered the mother of all life. She gave birth to the sky, mountains and sea.

Gaia then gave birth to Uranus, the sky god. Uranus became her husband and together they produced many children called the Titans. This shows the idea of life coming from parents and passing to children, which is the basic idea behind genetics.

One of their children was Cronus. Cronus later became the ruler by defeating his father Uranus. Cronus also had children, including Zeus.

Zeus later became the most powerful god. This passing of power, qualities and identity from Gaia to Uranus, Uranus to Cronus and Cronus to Zeus shows the idea of inheritance, which is the central concept of genetics.
